BALBLAIR

Bestowed with the title Balblair, the Celtic name for “battlefield”, this recently heritage listed home became just that for its new custodians, as an ensuing political battle over their land forced them to take cover.

The aim, to create a home that is relevant to today’s environment and way of life whilst maintaining important aspects that highlight the cultural value of the original home.

Using Burra Charter criteria as reference, the design response draws upon built form of the originating era in a complimentary and contemporary manner, adding to the eclectic story told by the current architecture of the home and ensuring the chronographic evolution is clearly honest.

The result embraces collective eclecticism, whilst providing a formal focus on the original home and sense of importance to its surrounding gardens.

Relevance = Value = Enthusiasm = Conservation
